Racial Diverstiy In RPG's
author=LovelessEntertainment link=topic=3824.msg76592#msg76592 date=1243213835Are you not understanding this? Using a sprite/face clearly modelled after a brown person and calling them black, because, you know, the world revolves around black and white people and no one else? Is this not potentially offensive?
Silly. We all know that black people have gold teeth, saggy pants, and eat fried chicken.
They're not black if they wear turbans, have light brown skin, and are somewhat articulate.
Iishenron may have made his characters black and that being the case greater care must have been taken to make them look black, not brown (note: I am using black and brown and shorthand for the different races associated with those skin colours). It's not rocket science.
If you want to go for racial diversity, make it more than just "white person black person...see? racially diverse" Because there are countless other types of people (not to mention race, in fact, is not only to do with skin-colour!).
EDIT: I just downloaded TTHW and checked out Fayette's graphics and she looks more brown than black dude. (again, short-hand here)
Herro (again)

Ja.
Vance might, but Fayette certainly doesn't have a sprite that resembles black complexion; same goes go for the faceset...so black in what way?
...this feels so stupid why are you making me type out GCSE style answers

I don't have one. I'm asking a question.
This is a racial diversity topic. What is it about the characters that made them racially diverse?

If you didn't see anyone "black" in TTHW, I'd honestly question if you played the game at all.I suddenly recall Vance being Jamaican or likewise. hmm
1) Hair color - irrelevant. There aren't any purple or blue haired people naturally in this world, but they exist in my game.Kay.
Turban - this is fantasy. People wear all sorts of clothes in a fantasy setting. Therefore, irrelevant.I will give you that even though it is sort of silly as a turban is a recognised symbol of cultural identity! If you include a turban the first thing people are going to assume is a Sikh/Middle Eastern.
3) Brown skin - Because all black people have charcoal black complexions, right?Sorry, there is no way those characters (or at least Fayette, maybe Vance, just maybe) have anywhere near what someone would call a black complexion. Maybe you should take a closer look at different races next time you walk around the city or something?
Combined with the brown skin and turban, Fayette, for example, doesn't have any sort of physical feature that'd make her "black", and more Indian if anything.
4) Other distinguishing characteristics - Maybe I didn't write my characters right. Maybe I should've given them a gold chain and had them "talk like this, yo fo' the shiznizz" or something. What made them black, then? Did they say so or something? That's all I want to know, because physical appearance says otherwise.
This is why I said your post was retarded.
I don't mean to cause offence or anything but I'm really curious about your thought process. Surely if you meant for your characters to be black you should have made them look so? Or did you not really care, because I'm cool with that. |:

Like this. This is so retarded I'm not even sure where to begin.

I never knew brown skin, golden hair and turbans were discerning features of black people. I better keep my eye open from now on; who knows whom I may offend?
EDIT: Okay, turbans MAYBE but seriously what in the world was "black" about these TTHW characters? Granted I haven't played the game in ages but I don't recall anyone "black" in TTHW. (Why am I using quotes)

Since when was the world only about white people and black people? No wonder I don't get along anymore.

Actual substance: I've never given a single thought to racial diversity in RPGs and I don't think you really need to unless your game is strictly-human with peoples of various cultures (which is unlikely in most RPGs I'd say).
